Poetry Favorites

March 1st, 2009

Poetry can take you places, create scenes in your mind, lead you to look at, and think about things in new ways. It can make you laugh or make you cry.

You have all been writing wonderful poems in your classes. Choose your favorite original poem and write it in this blog post. Then write a reflection on why it is your favorite poem. How did you come up with your idea? Was the poem easy or difficult to write?

Please write about the literary devices that you used in your poem. Did you use similes, metaphors, personification, figurative language, onomatopoeia, repetition or any other of the literary devices that poets use? If you have two favorite poems, then share them both with us and your reflections on them too!

    Hi miss mongno!
    Thetopic for this poem is:
    Valentine’s Day Choccolate

    Sweet Sweet <- begin here.
    Chocolate
    Melting in my mouth…
    Like a creamy love
    From your parent.
    Like a rain from the
    Candy land……that
    Hardened in the wind…
    Sweet like a candy cane
    From the Christmas elf…
    With some icing on top..
Happy Valentine’s Day! <- End here

    Reflection:
I chose this poem because everyone said so and I really like it. I think it’s easy for me to write this poem because I can write alot of things about food ^.^
In this poem, I use similies and lots and lots of
    adjective.

    Bye! @_@

    Hi!! This is Karin.
My poem is call “Poor Little Smelly Tomato”

    The red tomato
    Shouted
    Eat Me first!!
    I’m the delicious one
    The green tomato
    Shouted
    Eat Me first !!
I’m the best one in this nasty plate
    The Poor little green tomato
    Picked by a girl
    And
    ZOOOOOOOOOOOOM
    Into the trash
    Oh, Poor little
    green tomato…….
    Now it is in the
    NASTY
    SMELLY
    TRASH

    With a smelly orange peel
Oh, Poor Little Green nasty smelly Tomato!!

Reflection: The hardest thing was to think good words to put in the poem. It took me to that for 20minutes. And also it’s killing me!! I got this idea during the supper. And actually the poem was talking about the tomato and me. The one who trash the tomato was me. And the tomato was left over because it was GREEN. It exactly same thing as a poem says. I used onomatopoeia and repetition

Hi, Mrs. Mongno I am Erika. I chose the poem called Chocolate.
I wrote this poem because Miss B. told us o write about the Valentine’s Day. And I thought Valentine’s Day is Chocolate. Okay, here’s my poem, enjoy!

    I will eat you
    Tomorrow
I will put you in a
    Very cold refrigerator
    You will be very hard,
    Solid
You will not be like a doll
I will give you to my friend
    Chocolate
    She will eat you
    Quickly
    Don’t be
    Sad
    Everybody will like you
    No, everybody already likes you
    And already
    Waiting for you to come

This poem wasn’t difficult to write because I imagine hoe the chocolate will be like and how it looks like. And I thought almost everybody likes chocolate so much, so I think about it and wrote this poem. I used metaphor to write this poem. We learned that strategy is our class, and I thought it will be more interesting if we used metaphor, similes, and what Mrs. Mongno writes on the blog.

    Hi Mrs. Mongno

This is my favriot poem I wrote in my Home Work Writing Note Book.

    The fox meets a hare
    with pink hair
He tells the story of a mouse that has purple ears but
still has a silly orange but
    “It’s a secret.” he says.
    He jumps and told
    The funny toad
The story of the mouse that has purple ears but
Still has a silly orange but
    The fox heared the hare
he thought “I’ll ripe of his hair!”

I was trying to use homephones in my poem, you probrly know it didn’t work well. I got the idea while I was doing my E.S.L. home work. This was hard to write because I needed to look for sentence thet will mach with each homephone.

    Hi Ms.Mongno,
This poem is a free verse it is called funny mommy
    It was sunny
    When my mommy
    Ate my bunny
    So my mommy
    Turned into my bunny
    And my bunny
    Turned into my mommy
    It wasn’t funny
    Because my mommy
    Ate my money
    And some honey
I thought she was a mummy
    But she was my bunny
This is my favorite poem because it is funny and I like the way I made all the ending words rime.
I wrote this story in my writing journal at school. I didn’t know what to write, so I found some riming words and then I made the poem in my head. And I thought it sounded pretty good so I wrote it in my journal. I also added some small details. This poem was very easy to write, because it was simple and didn’t have hard words in it.

    Howdy Ms. Mongno
    Here, is my favorite poem….

    Chocolate Latte,
    Taste of a fluffy,
    Smooth,
    Of it…
    Topping with rainbow,
    Chocolate Latte,
    Yum! Yum!
    Whip cream…
    Cherry…
    My favorite of all!

This is my favorite poem because, first of all this poem makes me tasted well, such as Chocolate Latte which is my favorite. This poem it suddenly popped up into my head since when I remember the taste of fon-due at Swensen. This poem is quite not hard cause when I start to think it popped into my head everytime.

    Hi, miss. Mongno
My favorite poem is Haiku. Here is the poem. It calls giant panda.

    Eating the bam-boo
    Getting fatter and fatter
    Sleeping on the ground

This is my favorite poem because it is easy top write and different from the other poem like they have rhyme but haiku has a beat. I come up with this poem because I had written a lot of Haiku. I had figurative that talks about giant panda.

    Hi Mrs. Mongno!
    My FAVORITE POEMS are…

    PARADISE
    Mild and warm paradise.
    Accompany and friendship.
    Glitter like a star.
    Marvelous like the Milky Way.
Fragrant and aromatic like a lily.

    Lonely Rose
    I’m a rose,
    Beautiful Rose.
    I have beautiful
    Reddish soft petals
    With yellow inside
    And a green stem
    With thorns.

    Everyone is saying
I’m the best flower, in the world.
    But no-one comes to me.

    I have thorns to
    Protect myself.
    But I’m lonely…
    Everyone is not coming…
    They’ll never come…

I think that two poems are my favorite
because I was interesting about rose and
paradise and it took long time to got
idea and also I revised them many times,
And I think revising took me to good accomplishment.
And when I read poem, ‘PARADISE’ it makes me
    feel comfortable and calm.

    Hello, Ms.Mongno!
This is my favorite poem. It’s called Predator and Prey.

    I’m the Smartest,
    fastest,
    cutest,
    most squeakiest
and cheese eating mouse in the world!
    You can’t catch me
    You stupid cat
    You can’t catch me
    You stupid cat

    I’m the Bravest,
    Courageous,
    swiftest,
    smartest
and most speedy cat in the world!
You can’t run away from me
    You dumb mouse
You can’t run away from me
    You dumb mouse!

    AND… GULP!

    I used alliteration, which is I’m the… You can’t…
Also, this is my favorite poem because I could write this one
really easy and also it is fun to reread my poem and revise something.
Well, I was trying to change all the things in my poem, but actually
I had no alliteration in my poem, so I just added some alliteration
and that was all of my revising poem.

    Hi!Ms.Mongno,
my favorite poem is “The Wind”:

    Who has seen the wind?
    Neither you nor I;
But when the leaves hang trembling,
    The wind is passing through.
    Who has seen the wind?
    Neither I nor you;
But when the trees bow down their heads,
    The wind is passing by.

This is my favorite poem because when I was reading this poem, I was relax, and also this poem had used repetion.
I think this poem is easy to write, because I can imagine the pictures in my head.

    Hi
    I chose this poem

    Goal Keeper
    Kentaro

    In
    The
    Goal
    Waiting for a ball
    Jump
    Catch
    Saving a team
    He is like a
    Super hero
    That saves our
    team
I like this poem because this is about my friend called Harry who really did save our team. Also othere poem doesn’t talk about person I know so this poem was kind of special. This is easy to write because I can just go back and remember what had happened.
