Moving On!

Over the last 2 weeks we have thought quite a bit about moving to 6th grade. We have also investigated many inspirational sayings by wise people around the world that can help in your move to Middle School and in years to come. You have had the opportunity to reflect with a partner and make several podcasts individually and with a partner.
After listening to your partner podcast on your reflections on moving to 6th grade, write about what you have learned from the podcasts, both your individual and partner podcasts. Do you feel your speaking skills have improved? If so, how? What do you think of your partner podcasts? Do you feel your conversational skills are stronger now? If so, how? Lastly, have these reflections with the inspirational sayings been helpful? Do you feel more prepared for 6th grade? What else can you do to help to prepare for 6th grade?
For our visitors and listeners from outside ISB, do you share some of the same concerns about moving on that we have?

Hello Soon-to-be-Sixth Graders! I think you’ll love sixth grade. Still, I’m sure you have many questions as you anticipate coming to middle school. If you post some of your questions, sixth graders from this year can write to you about what they discovered in their first year in middle school. Write soon!
I think my podcast is great. But it didn’t really help me to speak in front of class. Well when I heard my voice, my voice was really bad. And my partner also grinned about it.
My speaking skils have improved a lot. But I have to keep practicing speaking. Also I think one of the ways that I can improve speech skill is speaking in front of my family nice and loud.
Well, partner podcast is better than just one person doing a podcast. Because if we podcast together I get courage. So I can speak more comfortably than normal. Also we can take turns and not have one person just talking which is boring.
I think ‘Inspirational Sayings’ help a lot for preparing to go up to 6th grade. Also I think sometimes inspirational sayings are like a sign of courage. I liked podcasting inspirational sayings with thought.
I think my podcast is good. but I think it didn’t really help me to have more courage at all because I was alone.
I think that my speaking skills are getting better then before because my partner gave me some good feed back.
I have to keep praticing my voice, and also the inspirational saying if I want it to became true, and also if I dont pratice I might forget it and it wont come true.
my partner also improved alot because his voice was louder, stronger, and more clear.
i think that he is ready for middle school

and seok seon i don’t think your voice was really bad i could hear it and understand clearly.
I think I’m improve in use the word more clearly and try to don’t use the word “like” all the time just use it when it is important. In this class, teacher teach us how to get the better word in writing and speaking instead of “very hungry” I decided to use the word “starve” Os this word describe more clearly! I think I should improve in speak louder and don’t low the voice at the end. I should brief something while I was reading in paper not just copy what in your paper said so it will make your paper more interesting. And I should use more better word to make my paper be more interest! I felt like I feel more strong or brave while I was reading. I feel like my paper was better in the first draft so I feel more strong!
I learn that podcast helps me a lot because it helps me when I have to speak to the class. So,I practice in the podcast first, then I don’t have to be scared when I speak in front of the class. I think my speaking has improved a lot because the first time I was very scared but when I say to my podcast I am not scared any more.
I think my partner speaking skill is very good. He has improved a lot. I think our conversation was very good because each of us did say a little bit at a time.
I think inspirational saying helping me a lot because it shows me that I need to practice more and more to get better in everything.
I think I am ready for sixth grade. But I still wonder if there will be a lot of writing reports and speaking in front of the class. I still be a little bit scared.
G’day from australia. We haveing a greattime with our blogs. Do you like doing blogging in free time.
I’m really enjoying year six. Hard work always pays off. I’ve already learnt heaps.
Cody
G’day from Australia. have a look at my blog and you have a lot of people on your clustrmaps. i wish i could have that much.
bigfoot
Hi I’m Rach from Australia
What are you looking forward to in year seven?
I am looking forward to meeting to friends and having different teachers and doing different subjects like cooking.
Are you nerves about any thing?
I am a bit nerves about going into high school and going into different class rooms.
I think my podcast was good even my voice was little.
It’s has been only 3weeks past but I think my English got a little nutral. And I manage to speak a lot than the first podcast.
I think this will help me when I go to 6th grade because I can remenber this sayings when I think I need help.
Last,I think I have to speak more when I go to 6th grade. So that my English become more fluently like pureblooded americanpepeol.
I think my podcast is the WORST because it’s not so “informal”. The things I can improve are to talk LOUDER, don’t pause for a LOOOONG time and DON’T say LIKE so manny times… And I realize if I record my voice in the Computer or something when I listen to it, I know that MY VOICE IS SOOO WEIRD!
I think my group should have done a better job with the voices. In other words we should have being lowder.
I am not so worried about Middle School, because I have 3 friends there exept yhe oldest one is going to High School. So actually I have 2 friends there. I’m not worried also because I am 12 and I’m in 5th grade and a teacher told me once that I’m going to be a better 6th grader if I learn the things I need to learn to be ready. I guess the thing that can help me in Middle School is to ask my mom and dad who might give me some hints.
I think my voice record is little bit bad because I had no connection with the other people and I had a less details. But I think I did well from doing by the first.
my other friends and the classmates like wit, cherl, Anisa, and haruka did good at the records they used many details and connections. If I do the second record I will do better than I did this time
I think that wit did well in writing and the podcast because he had lost of good ideas what I couldn’t think before. I think that he should not be so scared at the things what he is doing for the first time. I am sure that he will have a nice day on the 6th grade.
Wow! This is cool!!
G’day in Thailand too. Thank you for coming to our blog!
(Comment to Cody=>I love commenting on blogs on free time too!)
(Comment to Bigfoot=>We can go on to your blog and we can help!)
(Comment to Rach=> We are in 5th grade so we don’t really plan about 7th grade. But I’m kind of nervous about going up to six grade too.
I think that moving into 6th grade is quite fun but also scary because I will have a more teachers , classes and friends but I will have bunch of more home works. I know that I have to ask many more questions to my parents , teachers and the friends.
I think Kiewon podcast is good because he give a lot of idea. Also everyone in the class did a good recording. I think Kiewon recording is good but if he is doing the second time I think he will get better. I think it will fun too record more and more. Thank
I’m Haruka.I like your comment Cody, thankyou. I,m very exited going to 6th grade too.
Do you have lot’s of friend? I hope so.
Thankyou for telling about you for us.
.
I really agree with Anisa. Because when I listen to my pod cast, I always think that my voice is too small, too much ‘like’, and too much long pauses. So I thought that my partner(s) and I can plan who is going to talk first and who is going to talk next… Also I thought that we should practice at our home. You know like when we have spare time you could just practice talking. Than when you’re recording, your voice would be loud and clear. And I am sure that soon you will have lesser pause and lesser ‘like’!
I think my podcast has improved because I’ve spoke louder and clearer than last time. Before we begin the podcast we plan what each person will say. The next time, I will go home and practice speaking my part so I could talk more louder than this time. I also feel more prepared in 6th grade because on the amazing bridge day my buddie had guide me into each classes in 6th grade. But I’m still worried about homework in 6th grade.
I like your comment, Lau M., I thought it was compliment for me.
Well I’m ready for middle school. Because of ‘inspirational sayings’. But I feel nervous because middle school is more different than elementary school(Strick Teacher; suspension). I know there is a lot of events middle school. Lau M. Are you ready for middle school? If you don’t prepare for middle school, you won’t succedd the middle school.
Actually your voice was better than my voice(Really!). Also your speaking skill a lot improve when we did first partner podcast.
I agree with wit I podcast really does help a lot and if you keep praticing while you are in six grade you will pass it easily.
i agree with wit, I think I am ready for sixth grade. But I still wonder if there will be a lot of writing reports and speaking in front of the class. I still be a little bit scared.
Hi, I’m Kirre! I just want to say that in America Middle School is 6th grade. While in Europe (where I come from) Middle School is 7th grade. I think everybodys voice threads are good expecially the ones that were from Australia and England. I defeneatly would LOVE to get my voice threat finished.
I think my podcast was fine… (-_-) Well, I think it could of been better if I did a good job. Hiro had a loud voice and did a really good job but my voices were way lower than Hiro’s. (~_~) So next time I think I should try to lift my voice up.
I learned that I should lift my voice up and to be ready to answer my partners questions.
I think this will help me because I can remember what I said and use it in middle school!!!!!!!!!!!!! (>_<)
Wit!!!!!! My partner’s also improved and he’s way better than me!!! (-_=;)
I think my speaking skills have improved by a little bit. I have improved in speaking loud enough, and being able to converse with my friend or my partner equally. When I listened to my pod cast, I thought I was speaking to loud over my partner. I have improved by not being embarrassed, or stop letting my partner read more than me.
Yes I agree with you SoekWeon. I agree that the “inspirational saying” do help prepare you for middle school. And SoekWeon, don’t care about if every body grinned to you. Just try to speak your best.
