Hi Ms. M! This is your old friend, Trent from Dubai. I am now teaching in Singapore! I love talking about reading! It is exciting! When I read nonfiction texts, I use some of the same strategies that I use when I read fiction texts and some different ones. For example, I always reread when I don’t understand what I’ve read. I also pay attention to the bold words. Also, before I read, I preview the texts to look at the pictures and I make sure to read the captions that are under the pictures.

In nonfiction, I try to find the true facts and I also try to find some morals in the book.
In fiction, I try to find protaganist and untaganist. Also I try to think of the facts that it`s not in the book.(instead of the book facts, I use my mind facts.)
I always read about the author if the book have it. Also i look at the first picture page to figure out what`s this story about.

The different is when we are reading a fiction book, our thoughts must be like what happen next. But if we are reading a nonfiction book, our thoughts must be like I think I will learn…..

In non-fiction books, I always take notes about it and when I look back and don’t get it, I ask someone or find some words in the dictionary.I think we have to take notes since non-fiction book is filled with facts!!! ^_^

I read more slowly and reread the book because in nonfiction it is true so we have to look more carfully

The thing that I do when I am reading nonfiction text is I read it carefully and slowly to understand what they book is about. I don’t always use the same stratagy for reading nonfiction. When I read nonfiction I usually remember it or write it down on a piece of paper so I can use it when there is a question in a book or a quiz.

When I read nonfiction books I think I understand more than chapter books because the text is short and the pictures also helps to guild me too.The problem is I don’t like to read fact about real life, I would love to read funny chapter books!

Sometimes I read slower to get more facts. I choose the book that have picture to explain the imformation. I made picture book because if I don’t understand I could use the picture to help me get an idea. I like to read nonfiction about sport and car. I think it is fun. I don’t like real life nonfiction book because it is not fun.

When I read nonfiction books at home, I just read and when I don’t understand any words, I look up with my electronic dictionary. I don’t take notes but I can remember most of the information if I read really hard. When I read nonfiction books at school, I take notes often. Mostly, when I read them at school, I have some work to do so I always need to take notes, so that I can remember the important informations. I don’t read Nonfiction books often because it’s not funny and I don’t like to know much about real life. I rather read funny fiction books!!!

When I read nonfiction books at home, I don’t take notes. But when I come to any words that I don’t understand, I look up with my electronic dictionary or ask my family. Sometimes, I read the facts out loud but when I read something out loud, I can’t remember anything what I read. When I read nonfiction books at school, I take notes often because mostly, I have some work to do. I can’t remember everything all the time so when I take notes, it helps me to remember some inportant informations. I don’t read nonfiction books often because it’s not fun to read and I don’t like to learn about real life. I rather read funny fiction books!!!!!
