What in the World are Reading Strategies?

October 3rd, 2007

All of your teachers are talking about reading strategies and how using them helps us to comprehend, or understand what we read. What are some reading strategies that you know? Which ones do you use to help you to understand what you read? Write the ones you know you use and tell us when you use them. I bet we all use some of the same strategies to help us to comprehend!

I try to visualize what is happening in the story. When I read something I don’t understand, I think “What! What did I just read? I don’t get it!” Then I go back and reread to see if I can understand it the second time I read it. If I don’t get it then, I keep the question in my mind and read on to see if my question is answered.
Sometimes I think the author writes in a way that makes us really think about the meaning and ask questions in our minds as we read to find the answers.

My reading strategy is using talking dictionary and sound-out. These help me to get the meaning of difficult words. So I could understand the story.

First, I read in my mind.
Then I will get the story.

    Next, I read aloud!
    so I can Read better!

When I’m read and I don’t understand what the book is about I would reread because that helps me understand better.I also understand by read out loud it sometime helps me understand better than other statergie. When I am readind I like to imagine a mental picture in my mind because it makes me understand what kind of character is it.

Like Ms.M, I try to visualize what’s happrning in the story. When i don’t understand something, I just guess what it is and read on.

I usually just reread a few times and I still don’t get it, I put it in my head and read on and if I find it it’s great!^_^ but If I don’t I use my electronic dictionary or ask someone.

Often I come to a sentence or the whole pargraph, what I do is I read aloud and sometimes I read on to find more clues. Most of the time I also come to words I don’t understand, i usually get my very own dictionary and read the definition.

When I read, I usually try to find the author craft. Also when I stucked on something, I reread or read on. When I found the word that I don’t know, I look in my electric dictionary.
